Three Steam/PC/Mobile Games You Must Try Before Traveling South Korea

So as a gamer myself, which became one of the reason why this Seoul Animation&Game Tour was being made… I’ve dig into numerous games, starting from consoles like Playstation or Nintendo, mobile, to steam PC games. With one of the tourist who came to South Korea for travelling asking out “where could I buy Limbus Company merches here?”, this became the reason to come out with Korean Games or those games well played by Korean, which would make your trip to South Korea much engaging once you played these.

Overall these games and those related recommendations are obviously MY SUBJECTIVE opinions, that I hold as a South Korean myself. These are the games that I purely enjoyed, and putting all factors (tourism location in Korea, how much it relates with Korea culture and society etc) together to come out with 3 of them for recommendations.

I hope this blog would be bit helpful for those gamers who are planning to go for South Korea trip.

Limbus Company

The game which is the reason why I’m typing this blog right now. Actually this one is a pretty popular game on steam(I’ll leave the steam link right below.)

Being one of the must-know for battle royales or MMO players, Limbus Company is a steam game developed by Project Moon – A South Korean indie studio, which grew their extreme international fanbase by this RPG. With stunning arts with that dystopian backdrops(which is my preference: I love Maze Runner or those stuff for similar reasons), you could obviously have a go cuz it is free on the platform. I haven’t finish up the stories towards the latest chapter, but my surroundings told me that their storytelling is GOAT.

(I like this kind of dystopic atmosphere this game gives out)

And as Limbus Company is the reason why I am writing this blog, I shall recommend a place for you Limbus Company gamers to find out when you arrive at South Korea to fully enjoy.

HamHamPangPang (Project Moon Cafe)

Address: 25 Beopjo-ro, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea (Postal code: 16514) Gwanggyo SK VIEW Lake Tower, 1st Floor

The developer Project Moon Studio has opened their own game theme cafe, which giving you the chance to immerse yourself into their game universe. You’re looking for Limbus Company merches? Not only they got all kind of merches selling, they also got artbooks for their game (which is my favorite type of merch. I collect all kind of animation or game artbooks when I get hooked. ) But it is heavy! So be sure to have this trip towards the cafe nearly the end of the day, so that you wouldn’t be walking around alot with all those artbooks and merches on you. And of course, as a cafe, they got food menu together with your favorite game characters.

And most importantly- This is a reservation based cafe, so make sure you made your reservation at Catchable (South Korea’s restaurant reservation app)

League of Legend (Feat. FAKER)

I don’t think I even need to explain this one- and now people are crazy about the global game tournaments. One of the most well known LOL pro gamer team – T1- which is where the Faker belongs- is from South Korea. Tons of people have curiosity about why South Korean are so good at gaming…. Like, there were an isolated server for South Korea at Starcraft years ago, and now they are blowing up the LOL. Maybe when you visit South Korea, try to go for the internet cafe here?

T1 Base Camp

Address: B1, 147 Yanghwa-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea)

This is the one and only T1 official partnership Internet Cafe, which is at the center of Hongdae district, which not only you could enjoy Korea’s internet cafe culture at the same time, T1 official merch shop, photobooth, T1 pro gamer’s life size standee to take photo with, huge Faker figurine would also welcome you at the lobby.

I played some steam games and ordered some food which they would immediately bring it to you;D Now that’s Korea’s internet cafe culture….

Inspire Arena

Address: 127 Gonghangmunhwa-ro, Jung-gu, Incheon, South Korea (Zipcode: 22382)

Or, would you like to TRULY IMMERSE yourself into the LOL tournaments? Inspire Arena sited nearby Incheon International airport is the representative location for concerts and tournaments to take place, even T1 we mentioned before does their LOL tournaments right here, so you could watch the whole lively gaming matches.

This is some tip: Make the reservation for the match online before you arrive at South Korea.

Does God Works Overtime?

This one is actually one of my own favorite- as a visual novel game developed by Korean game company “LunarGames” (Originally MeetNGreet), it talks about a normal Korean businesswoman who’s used to work overtime for work, who suddenly managed to become the god of the world of tale by obtaining secret power, and meet up these 4 guys who you would later on counter after you became the god.

This type of romance simulation game would definitely remind most of the western gamer “Mystic Messenger”, which became a huge boom years ago around English and Spanish speaking countries. Being real-time chatting system game, you got to chat with other members you could date with eventually.

I’ll go through bullet points about why you would better enjoy your trip in South Korea after you play “Does God Works Overtime?” (Or called “Lunar Romance”):

First off, you got to experience and know Korea businessman’s life and our culture. Having the main protagonist, you, as a normal Korean businesswoman, the story would invite you to become a Korean living at South Korea. We drink beer and have chicken (which is called chimek) nearby Han River, and stuff.

Secondly, the plot and the story is deeply related with Korean myth. As a story of protagonist becoming the God of the world of tale, they deal about a lot of Korean ancient stories passed down by generation, and you get to see the characters in Korean traditional clothes – Hanbok. (You get to wear these when you visit our traditional palaces! )

For the last point;D…………….. I JUST LOVE EVERY PART OF THIS GAME. Despite being a small game developing team with extremely few people, the game still came up with their astonishing storytelling, with the main protagonist being those kind of strong female figure, who manage to go over the pain of loss and grew strong and brave to fight. The BGM together with the directing, and four dateable guys- two of them being the side on justice, and two of them- kinda “villian”, and you need to choose yourself, whether to go on “the Moonlight” route, which is fighting against the villian. Or you could choose the “shadow” route, which, you chose to hold your hand with the “evil”(but actually finding out those two being heartbreaking… Especially my favorite character Seo Eunhan….)

A bit of a TMI though… It is actually a pretty sad story that the shadow route will not be available though… Cause the developer doesn’t have enough budget to update and develop the remaining part of the game… ;( But if you are on for the moonlight route, it is completely available.
